YWAM Journalism Student Reporting from Southern Sudan

In Southern Sudan you will find a mountain top called the “Prayer Mountain”. It is owned by a former YWAMer, Tijwong, who had the vision to start a school there during the Sudanese war. The school, “Christ Ambassadors’ School”, took in children from all backgrounds to teach them biblical principles so that “their generation could be transformed”. There are now 243 studnts at the school being provided with a Christian Education.

In addition to the school there is also a radio station on the mountain top. The solar-powered radio station will reach people all over the area with the gospel and local news. Funds raised through advertising on the radio station will be used to supplement the finances for the school, which have been tight since the war in Sudan ended.

You can read more about the school and radio station, including their need for radio broadcasters and equipment, here.

YWAM GENESIS One Voice Worship in May

The beginning of May saw many nations from around the world brought together for a time of simultaneous worship and prayer using video conferencing.

There were many nations involved and the time started with Markus Steffen, who pioneered GENESIS in YWAM, lead out in prayer from their location in Lausanne, Switzerland. The worship was then led from many other nations, and included Korean fan dancing, a Hawaiian hula dance, and praise in many different languages.

Dean Serman also shared during the time from Ensenada, Mexico about how “Every time we exalt Jesus like this is scatters the enemies of God.”. Darlene Cunningham also shared about the faith that is needed for the next season of ministry in YWAM.

Prayer Update for YWAM Australia National Director

Got an update on the condition of Steve Aherne, the YWAM Australia National Director. Here it is:

He has been released from the hospital yesterday with improvement on his condition. The doctors still want to continue treatment on him but will do it from his home. His feet are still swollen and sore. He is waiting for approval from the government for him to be able to continue taking the injections which help his psoriasis. Please pray that he will be able to receive the medication he needs. His skin has improved immensely from when he was first admitted to the hospital…your prayers are working!

He is planning on going to Newcastle this Sunday … He will be speaking on the YWAM DTS there, so strength is needed.

Thanks again for your prayers.

Documentary Launched for YWAM DTS after Colorado Shooting

After the shootings at YWAM in Colorado there was a lot of healing that needed to occur. The YWAM base rallied together to seek God and find what He wanted to see happen next …

A new documentary, “Jeasusfreaks”, has been produced based on the YWAM DTS (Discipleship Training School) that happened at YWAM Colorado shortly after the shooting. The school had 45 students, all snowboarders between the ages of 17 – 25. The school leader, John Murphy, documented the school and all that happened on it.

All sorts of issues and topics are tackled during the school by the staff and students. You can check out the free trailer for the documentary here.

Mercy Ships Founders get Humanitarian of the Year Award

Don and Deyon Stephens, the founders of Mercy Ships, which was birthed out of Youth With A Mission (YWAM), were honoured with a humanitarian of the year award given by The Variety Club in London.

Mercy Ships was launched as a ministry of Youth With A Mission in 1978 and has since come away from YWAM to form their own separate organisation. In the last 30-years Mercy Ships has completed over 560 port visits in 53 developing and 17 developed nations, treating over a quarter of a million people in that time.

Since Mercy Ships launched out of YWAM a new ministry within YWAM called Marine Reach has taken up the banner as the ship ministry for Youth With A Mission. Marine Reach has a focus on smaller, more versatile ships that can stop at ports and communities that larger ships are unable to serve.
