There have been over 500 villagers killed since March 7 in the city of Jos, Nigeria. According to local YWAM Leaders, Ansel Pronk and Anne Abok, all of the YWAM staff working in the city are safe so far. Many of the friends and loved ones of the YWAM staff have been lost however in the violence.
YWAM in Jos, Nigeria have been helping to provide relief aid and clothing to the many who have been displaced by the violence. The Red Cross has built up hastily built camps to provide a place to live for the many who are now without homes.
Much of the violence is religious in nature as Jos is a located in central Nigeria, right between the predominantly Muslim North of Nigeria, and the predominantly Christian South.
