Upcoming Support and Friendraising Workshop

On May 31- June 4, 2010 Terry Sherman will be hosting the “Train the Trainers in Friendraising Workshop”.

The workshop is a four day workshop on friendraising and support raising for people in YWAM. It will be hosted at the YWAM Heidebeek centre in Heerde, the Netherlands.Terry has been developing training in the area of support raising and friendraising for the last 8-years and has run these workshops successfully in previous years.

The first three days will be spent learning about how to raise support. The fourth day will be dedicated to looking at how the participants can multiply that teaching on their own YWAM Centre.

The training is very interactive and includes homework before the workshop, lots of group discussion and assignments during the workshop.

Worship Training Video Ideal for New YWAM Students

I come from a church that has fairly conservative / traditional style worship, at least compared to the worship I experienced at YWAM Reef to Outback in Australia. Recently I was sent a copy of a training video on “How to Worship” that is geared towards people going into a Pentecostal flavour of worship, which is what I experienced in Townsville. I think that if I had been given the chance to see this video before attending my YWAM DTS I would have been much better equip for the worship experience…

What do you reckon, would this have been helpful to you when you came into YWAM or could this video possibly help new students at your Youth With A Mission location enter more easily into worship?

YWAM Biblical Core Course Starting in January

In January a new YWAM Biblical Core Course will be starting up at Reef to Outback, where I spent my first 11-years in YWAM and missions.

The Biblical Core Course (YWAM BCC) is a 5 1/2 month course that is broken up to be half lectures and half outreach. During lectures they’ll be covering topics like:

How to study the Word of God
Applying the what God says in the Bible to your life
Preaching and Teaching
Is the Bible still relevant today

After the lecture phase the Biblical Core Course will be heading over to Papua New Guinea again. The had a very successful outreach there last year when they ran the course and the staff are pretty excited to be heading back there again with the new school.

Jonathan Spainhour will be leading the school again this year. He just let me know this morning that another student signed up for it yesterday. He runs a great school full of practical and challenging teaching.

Communication Skills Workshop at YWAM Harpenden

In July YWAM Harpenden is offering a two week workshop to help YWAM Staff to improve their communication skills. An experienced group of professionals will be teaching on the course and the workshop will include both instruction and practical application.

The workshop will cover written and verbal forms of communication. Written communication will focus on business and professional writing and the verbal communication will focus on public speaking.

Jean Hartley, M.A. Communication, will be the primary speaker during the workshop. He has 40-years of college teaching experience and is a YWAM Associate directing internet ministry for people with physical disabilities.

YWAM Creative DTS Video from Aalesund Norway

I debated long and hard about adding a video to this site, but I really liked this video that was put together by the YWAM Creative Discipleship Training School from Aalesund in Norway. It was made as a creative application of 2 weeks of teaching on their YWAM DTS.

I wonder which two weeks of teaching this was after.

YWAM OneStory Seminar offered in Canada

Starting April 29th YWAM Turner Valley in Alberta, Canada is offering a one week “OneStory” seminar, open to anyone in YWAM Canada (or beyond) who want to learn more about how to communicate God’s Word to oral people groups. The goals of the seminar are to help the participants understand better how oral communicators think and learn, understanding their worldview and gaining knowledge of cultural considerations.

The OneStory seminar is a part of the call2all strategy to raise the churches effectiveness in evangelism and missions.

YWAM School of Field Journalism Completes Their Lecture Phase

The YWAM SoFJ in Africa has just completed the twelve week lecture phase of their school. The covered topics such as Worldview with Landa Cope, how to design a magazine and recording a radio broadcast (Maybe one of the graduates can help me develop a YWAM News podcast?)

They are currently praying about the field assignments for the YWAM SoFJ students to go on, getting the last of their finances in and where to go from there.

A Unique YWAM DTS Running Over Two Summers Targets College and University Students

Designed specifically for College and University students the “One DTS” offered by Youth With A Mission Colorado splits the traditional YWAM DTS in half to run over two summers. The first summer is spent in the lecture phase of the DTS. After the lecture phase the student then participates in a local church internship while studying or working. The following summer the students participate in an international outreach with the YWAM DTS.

YWAM Aviation Flight Training Academy Starts on April 6

The first YWAM Aviation Flight Training Academy begins on April 6th in Colorado Springs. There is 12-weeks of training and then the students will travel overseas to gain aviation experience with another mission aviation organisation in Central Asia. YWAM Aviation is also looking for staff to join them in this exciting new ministry.
